Position Summary
Marqeta is on a mission to change the way money moves. As Marqeta’s Sales Tax Manager, you manage all U.S. and international indirect tax compliance, reporting, and accounting activities of indirect taxes. This is a highly visible opportunity partnering with cross-functional groups within the company to understand the tax impact of business operations and ensure tax needs are identified, considered, and communicated.

What You’ll Do
- Lead the growth of Marqeta’s indirect tax function into foreign jurisdictions, advising on how to structure transactions in the most tax advantageous way for each region.
- Implement software for indirect tax automation. Lead the adoption of tools and processes to reduce manual work and increase tax resource productivity.
- Manage product taxability matrix and system enablement, including minimizing risk and identifying saving opportunities.
- Review monthly indirect tax accruals, journal entries, and reconciliations for key accounts for SOX control purposes.
- Drive the overall ASC 450 process every quarter. Review reserve positions, discuss new positions, and prepare memos for review.
- Lead and ensure efficient closure of all US indirect tax audits and tax assessment notices, as well as state VDAs.
- Monitor the dynamic indirect tax landscape and assess and implement operational and compliance changes as required.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- 8+ years of indirect tax technical experience in sales & use tax, VAT/GST, and property tax
- Experience working in a fast pace work environment, ideally in the tech industry
- Timeliness: Strong deadline management skills with the ability to lead cross functional collaborators to an outcome on a set timeline
- Prioritization: Excellent project management skills with the ability to process a large number of competing requests from cross-functional partners
- Efficient with large dataset management; strong experience in Excel and Avalara desired
- Must embrace strong work ethics and integrity.
Nice to Have
- CPA license and Big 4 accounting consulting management experience.
