As an Account Executive at Marqeta, you will contribute to the growth and success of our Fintech business. We are looking for people who have a passion for exploring various aspects of complex business and technical engagements across multiple development areas. - Growth: The Growth team at Marqeta focuses on the next set of emerging innovators across fintech, embedded finance, digital banking, and beyond. This team targets the most exciting and innovative rising startups (Series A-C) that are on the cutting edge of innovation, working to capitalize on new market trends and inventing technologies soon-to-be table stakes. The Growth Team at Marqeta moves quickly, at the speed our startup customers require, moving deals through the Marqeta process and pipeline at a high velocity.
- Core: The Core team at Marqeta focuses on the largest and most impactful commercial opportunities in Marqeta’s evolving business. These customers include challenger banks, fintech innovators and labor / retail marketplaces, all looking for solutions to launch, scale, and continuously evolve their banking products and services. This team targets TPV 100 million - 1 billion in the Mid-Market space.
- Enterprise: The Enterprise team at Marqeta focuses on the largest and most impactful commercial opportunities in Marqeta’s evolving business. These customers include e-commerce, creator economy, dual-sided and retail marketplaces, all looking for solutions to launch, scale and continuously evolve their card programs and services. This team targets public companies, TPV 6 billion - 10 billion.
As an Account Executive you will spend the first 6 months learning the ins and outs of Marqeta and our customers, supporting Team Leads on strategic projects, and building pipeline.
We work Flexible First. This role can be performed remotely anywhere within the United States, though some teams may have specific location requirements to best support customers.
What You’ll Do
This role is about generating and closing new opportunities while playing a key role supporting the Account Director in setting the strategic vision for the business - here are a few key expectations:
- Qualify leads and prioritize customer opportunities: Serve as the primary point of contact for strategic prospects by identifying their needs and requirements, responding to requests for information, and vetting them against our current and future product offering.
- Run a Sales Process: Manage real customer opportunities through a sales process, from initial engagement to pricing discussions to final contract negotiations. At any given time, you will be responsible for partnering with your team to grow and renew existing accounts and working opportunities in various stages of that process in Salesforce.
- Contracting: Work with our Legal team as required to shepherd both inbound and outbound opportunities through the contracting process, including negotiation and execution.
- Know the Tech: Quickly get up to speed on Marqeta's technical capabilities, the unique features and customer benefits our platform offers and how to speak with confidence, knowledge and credibility about what we bring to our customers and prospects.
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in sales, preferably SaaS sales with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years of experience with an advanced degree. In lieu of a degree, 8+ years of relevant experience may suffice.
- Solid understanding of the payments ecosystem, knowledge of card issuing is required.
- Familiarity with fintech, B2B technology applications and how technology platforms serve customer businesses.
- Ability to manage expectations of both internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to serve as the face of Marqeta for prospective customers and partners.
- Capability to evaluate and model complex and custom customer proposals.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic and evolving environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work cross-functionally to deliver on the customer’s needs.
- Proficient in various sales methodologies and qualification frameworks.
- Superior communication skills (interpersonal, verbal, email, and presentation) with the ability to successfully orchestrate the sales process by managing the time and resources of the team and specialist partners.
- Positive attitude, team player, adaptable, resourceful, and self-starter who is able to work independently.
